Species-Specific Design for Long-Term Welfare

Explore OSER’s small, medium, and advanced biosphere tiers. Species suitability and animal capacity depend on the enclosure footprint, environmental requirements, individual behavior, and compatibility assessment using OSER’s proprietary CSECM framework.

OSER does not sell animals. All listed biosphere prices are for the system, plants, and equipment only. Animals are not included. Species examples and capacity figures describe potential residents for suitability assessment only.

Biosphere Tier Overview

At OLDSCHOOL EXOTICS & REPTILES LLC, biospheres are engineered microhabitats designed to support stable, long-term animal welfare outcomes. Systems may incorporate living plants, microfauna-supported nutrient cycling systems, fungal ecological support components, humidity gradients, and temperature zoning, all configured to the biological requirements of the species and the enclosure footprint.

Each biosphere is structured for long-term maintainability, environmental consistency, and animal welfare.

The animal numbers listed below are conditional upper limits for potential residents; no animals are sold or supplied with a system. The appropriate number may be lower, including a single animal, depending on the species, individuals, and proposed configuration. Example species require individual assessment before a tier is selected. Compatibility is evaluated through OSER’s proprietary CSECM framework using individual behavioral observation, environmental requirements, and preservation of each animal’s agency.

$300 Biosphere — Small Reptile Systems

$300 includes the biosphere system, plants, and equipment only. Animals are not included.

Potential capacity: Up to two small reptiles, subject to species-specific requirements, enclosure footprint, and CSECM compatibility assessment.

A compact, naturalistic system designed for smaller species and controlled environments. This tier supports species-specific environmental stability when the enclosure provides the required space and environmental structure.

Recommended for:

  • One or two small reptiles, where the assessed configuration is appropriate
  • Entry-level or space-limited setups that meet the selected species’ requirements
  • Species-specific environments sized for the intended residents

Example species for assessment:
Crested geckos, small geckos, anoles, small skinks, and other small reptile species.

$800 Biosphere — Medium Reptile Systems

$800 includes the biosphere system, plants, and equipment only. Animals are not included.

Potential capacity: Up to two medium-sized reptiles, subject to species-specific requirements, enclosure footprint, and CSECM compatibility assessment.

A mid-sized, fully planted system providing increased space, environmental depth, and substrate structure to support ecological stability for species with more complex environmental requirements.

Recommended for:

  • Up to two medium-sized reptiles, where the assessed configuration is appropriate
  • Animals requiring stable humidity, temperature gradients, or expanded movement space
  • Keepers seeking greater environmental complexity and plant diversity

Example species for assessment:
Smaller Uromastyx species, larger geckos, medium skinks, select small tortoise species when appropriate, and other reptiles requiring increased environmental structure.

$1,000 Biosphere — Advanced & Multi-Species Systems

$1,000 includes the biosphere system, plants, and equipment only. Animals are not included.

Potential capacity: Up to five reptiles, configuration-dependent.

This tier supports larger or more complex systems and may accommodate multi-species ecosystems when CSECM compatibility criteria and requirements for enclosure footprint, species behavior, and long-term welfare are met.

For shared systems, OSER’s CSECM assessment evaluates whether each animal retains independent usable access to food, water, thermal areas, movement routes, refuge, and retreat without exclusion or obstruction.

Recommended for:

  • Up to five reptiles, configuration-dependent
  • Larger individual reptiles or multi-animal systems
  • Advanced keepers or long-term collectors
  • Multi-species ecosystems when CSECM compatibility criteria are met

Example species for assessment:
Bearded dragons, larger skinks, large gecko species, and carefully selected compatible groupings.

Species-Specific Selection Guidance

Biosphere selection is species-specific and should account for behavior, growth, enclosure footprint, environmental parameters, and long-term care goals.

OSER can provide direct guidance based on:

  • Species identification
  • Age and projected adult size
  • Behavioral profile and compatibility assessed through OSER’s proprietary CSECM framework
  • Spatial requirements
  • Long-term environmental and welfare goals

Submit your current setup or intended species, and OSER can provide a recommendation based on your specific conditions.
